Meet the Makers: Behind the Designs at Table Art

The Art of Making: Meet the Minds Behind Table Art

Step inside our studio and discover the designers turning imagination into unforgettable event experiences

Every striking centrepiece, illuminated prop, and eye-catching installation you see at a Table Art event begins life not in a showroom—but in the minds of a small, passionate, and brilliantly inventive team. At the heart of our design department is a trio of makers who blend creativity, technology, and precision engineering to bring bespoke event décor to life.
From initial sketches to 3D modelling and even robot programming, Table Art’s in-house designers are the driving force behind our reputation for innovation and quality. In this blog, we introduce you to Gary, Jake, and Fred—the creatives shaping the future of event design.

The Creative Spark:

Gary Martin, Founder & Design Director

When you see a Table Art product, you’re looking at the legacy of Gary Martin’s imagination. As the company’s Founder and Design Director, Gary is the original spark behind the business and remains its creative compass to this day. His passion for visual storytelling and design excellence is the foundation upon which everything is built.
Armed with nothing more than a sketchpad and a powerful vision, Gary conceptualises each design with careful thought around materials, scale, colour, and atmosphere. He works side-by-side with his son Fred and colleague Jake, ensuring his ideas are translated into workable, buildable, and beautiful realities—often within hours of concept.

“Having Fred right beside me at the desk means I can go from sketch to screen in a single conversation. That’s the beauty of our small but agile team—we move fast, we communicate constantly, and we understand each other’s creative language.”

— Gary Martin | Lead Designer & MD

CAD Precision:

Jake Rheams, CAD Designer

Joining the team in 2019, Jake Rheams has grown into a master of detail. Having learned CAD design in-house, Jake’s design skills were shaped entirely through hands-on experience at Table Art, giving him a deep understanding of the company’s ethos and products.
Jake is known for his precision, perfectionism, and commitment to sustainable craftsmanship. He works meticulously to optimise material usage, ensuring minimal waste without ever compromising on quality. His approach has elevated the structural integrity and finesse of our builds, from our most intricate centrepieces to full-scale installations.

“Jake’s layouts are like puzzles—each piece fits exactly where it should, using every millimetre of material with intention. That care shows in the final product, every time.”

- Andy Rawlings | Technical Development Manager

The Tech Wizard:

Fred Martin, 3D Designer & Robotics Developer

Where imagination meets innovation, you’ll find Fred Martin. Fred wears many hats at Table Art: he’s a 3D designer, CAD engineer, Blender artist, robotics programmer, and 3D print specialist. As Gary’s son, Fred has grown up immersed in the Table Art world and brings a unique fusion of artistic flair and technological know-how.
Fred plays a key role in developing client visuals, using Blender to render photorealistic concepts that help customers visualise Gary’s designs. But he’s also the mastermind behind our Maestro robots, having trained with our robotic suppliers and expanded their capabilities through custom programming.
He’s currently pushing boundaries with carbon fibre 3D printing, working on new bespoke models for upcoming themed events—including a series of aeroplane-inspired props.

“Fred has taken our technology offering to new heights. From animations to interactive elements, he’s the reason our robots steal the show at every event.”

A Close-Knit Creative Force

Tight-knit, fast-moving, and fuelled by a love for great design.

What truly sets our design team apart is their closeness and collaborative spirit. Gary and Fred—father and son—share adjacent desks, exchanging ideas in real time and quickly evolving concepts from sketch to screen. Their synergy means faster prototyping, more cohesive designs, and a uniquely personal touch to every project.
Meanwhile, Jake brings a balanced discipline and technical prowess that anchors the creative flow, ensuring every piece is built to perfection. With over five years at Table Art, Jake’s contributions are vital to maintaining the high production standards we’re known for.
Together, they form a tight-knit team of makers with a shared commitment to innovation, efficiency, and creativity. Their collaboration is the engine behind everything Table Art produces—from large-scale installations to the smallest bespoke details.
