The Event: Scottish Apprenticeship Awards 2019
The Scottish Apprenticeship Awards is a long running annual celebration that is now in its 19th year. Above all, celebrating the talents, abilities, and accomplishments of Scottish Apprentices. Alongside the supporting efforts of their employers. This fabulous event brings together 350 representatives from Scotland’s most active sectors and apprentices.
Scottish Apprenticeship group has a very strong sense of brand. Teals and blues dominate the visuals on the website. We believe that one of the reasons that the Group return to the Table Art services year after year is our ability to inject those colours directly into the centre of the table. As with any AV Lighting, we always recommend a harmonious or contrasting colour backdrop. Rather than an exact match in colour to the centrepieces. Doing the later just guarantees the centrepiece camouflages with the backdrop.
Therefore, the AV on site selected a vivid purple hue to wash the walls of the Caird Hall and in contrast, our Candelabras shone in turquoise. The overall effect perfectly suited both the brand and marketing materials placed on the tables.
As with any awards show, it was an evening that was built on anticipation. Nominees waited excitedly as the winners were announced. Jordan Fairlamb walked away with the big award of the night, the Scottish Apprentice of the year! His employer Dawnfresh Seafoods Ltd were pleased as punch. Their star employee and Jordan is a shining example of why this program works so well:
“I feel the company has a lot of faith in me, sees the work I’ve done and gives me opportunities to do more. Apprentices are treated as colleagues right from the start.”
To get a sense of what the experience was light for the attendees on the night. We encourage you to check out #ScottAppAwards on social media. So, It gives you a fabulous insight into this prestigious evening!
The Venue: The Caird Hall Dundee
The Caird Hall is a jewel in the crown of Dundee. The main concert and event venue for the city, it’s located right in the centre of this vibrant Scottish hub. Originally constructed back in the 19th century as a new city hall, this venue oozes history. Although the original building was demolished, the Caird Hall rose from the ashes in the 1920’s when architect James Thomson redesigned this gem.
As one of Scotland’s most prestigious venues, it boasts a great many iconic performers. Everyone from The Beatles to Billy Connolly have graced the stage here at Caird Hall. For those history enthusiasts amongst you, the Caird Hall Autograph book is well worth a look!
One of Table Art Scotland’s favourite venues, this is always on the top of their list. Especially when they are looking to book a professional photographer to capture their services and décor. Above all, with such distinctive architecture, this hall is a dream backdrop for any décor.
The Centre:
In 2019, Greg and his team at Blue Parrot Group were asked to come up with table concepts for this, the 18th awards show. The team had the privilege of working on the Scottish Apprenticeship Awards 2018 and styled the tables with a mix of tall and low blossom. This year they wanted to up the ante as it where and go for something completely different. Proposing a wealth of centrepieces that they felt would suit the venue, the Candelabra was chosen by the Scottish Apprenticeship team.
Classic Candelabra
The Candelabra is one of the longest standing designs in the Table Art range. This design is based on the traditional Candelabra silhouette that you often find in stately homes and national trust gems. However, looking to inject the Contemporary Table Art Style, the design studio wanted to make the Candelabra out of clear Acrylic. Above all, making it in such a material would make it a dream to light, but as the base wasn’t the only source of light, it was also important to consider the candles.
As with all our centrepieces, we don’t use real flames. Above all, a nightmare in terms of Health and Safet. Real candles can also mark and damage our centrepiece so we avoid use of them at all costs. Therefore, the solution here was the utilizing LED Candles. Consequently, the beauty of using these is the aesthetic of the candle is maintained. No chance of them melting away!
A Popular Choice
These Candelabras remain one of our most popular choices of centrepiece. Consequently, owing to the fact it straddles both a traditional and modern style, they are the best of both worlds for a client. They also possess a fabulous trick… the use of acrylic material lends a ghostly like appearance to the candles. As a result, making them appear like they are floating in mid-air. To sum up, I think we can all agree that these elegant centrepieces illuminated the Caird Hall beautifully. Certainly, they were the perfect choice for the Scottish Apprenticeship Awards.
The Wrap Up
The photographer that Table Art Scotland use needs a round of applause. They never fail to deliver spectacular shots that here at the head office we make great use of! The Scottish Apprenticeship is another perfect example of this, showing our Candelabras off against the dramatic backdrop of Caird Hall.
