A New Venture: Industrial Furniture Art
While the Events Industry is on pause, Table Art pivot their creativity into a new business- Industrial Furniture Art.
The pandemic has forced many of us in the events industry to search out alternative ways to support our businesses. The Events industry has long been admired for its creativity and ingenuity. Alongside many of our Event colleagues, we at Table Art have shown that same ingenuity and created an alternative revenue source. Industrial Furniture Art is our lockdown adventure and has kept us sane through the multiple lockdowns. Within our wheelhouse of expertise, we have handcrafted a range of desks, tables, and workstations from reclaimed and recyclable materials. With a skeleton crew we have produced a unique furniture collection for the style savvy.
For those of you who follow us avidly on social media, you will already be aware of latest ‘side hustle’. This newsletter and accompanying blog is to induce all of our valued clients to Industrial Furniture Art. Beyond an update for the business, it also highlights an exciting product line that could well jazz up your home/ work office.
In the beginning
MD Gary has always had a passion for reclamation and creativity. The eagle eyed amongst you will have seen flickers of this interest for all things industrial with our Steampunk Events Collection. Rustic poseur tables made from reclaimed pallets and printed fabric panels inspired by rusty cogs and spokes. As the events industry came to a grinding holt, the team here had to refocus their efforts into something impactful and viable. With a yard full of old pallets and scaffolding, the team felt compelled to make the most of what they had available to them. Playing around in the workshop, the team first produced a rustic desk. With iron hairpin legs and refinished recycled wood, then listed on Etsy. We are thrilled to say that we received immediate interest. Before long the team were producing ten to fifteen desks a week.
Never one to settle on our laurels, the team were keen to develop their ideas. Having had enquiries for a stand-up version of the desks, research done into how we could improve customers posture as they worked at their desks. The result – our Well Workstation. Style and function is at the forefront of the brief, a versatile piece that elevates any home office. With three shelves that can be set to various heights, laptops can be raised up. This encourages you to stand while also improving your posture overall.
Well Workstations
Made from Birch Plywood, these Well Workstations have a distinctively Danish feel about them. Clean cut lines and rounded edges make for something that is smart and safe for the work environment. Firstly, the multiple shelves allow for an uncluttered desk. Raising up the laptop, ipad and much needed coffee from desk level is both pleasing on the eye and super practical. Secondly, right on trend, the light wood and Scandinavian look has made the Well Workstation our most popular piece.
Hot Tip: The Summer is fast approaching so why not invest in a Well Workstation now and get out into the garden to work. Get your chill on and pop the station on the lawn, crossed legged with the grass on your feet, how could you not feel inspired? Or for those of you less inclined to get down in the grass, the Well Workstation would work great on your garden table. Feel the breeze and hear the birds happily tweet away as you stand working at your workstation in the great outdoors!
Behind the Scenes
Our warehouse is unrecognisable now. Centrepieces and event props are shelved while the floor is strewn with power tools and wood piles. The team have redirected their skills and are getting creative with new products. Office Manager Clare has become quite the craftsperson. Taking the offcuts from the desks, she created some chic side tables. Refinishing the wood with darker stains and adding on iron hairpin legs, these side tables have become another popular product on Etsy. Bolstered by the success of that, Clare is now looking at rustic candle holders. Importantly, now that we are venturing back out into our gardens, it is a perfect time to develop a range fit for our outside spaces.
At the beginning, sales came exclusively through Etsy but now we sell across several platforms. Begin by checking out our dedicated website. The Industrial Furniture Art site gives you a clear sense of who we are and the product range available. However, one of our most exciting developments has been the ability to sell through Amazon. Above all, and most significantly through Prime. Customers now want their products as soon as possible. As a result, selling through Prime is the perfect solution.
